We do not chase the light. We cut the cloth at night, when the city is quiet and the fabric tells the truth. Hélène Vasseur — Première d’atelier
Behind a grey door on Rue Cambon, eleven hands share one table. Toiles are draped in muslin before a single thread of silk is committed; lapels are pad-stitched by hand; hems are weighted with slivers of brass so the line falls plumb, always.
Nothing here is seasonal in the ordinary sense. A Maison Noire garment is finished when the première says it is finished — and not one fitting before.
The salon receives no more than four guests a day. Champagne is poured, the lights are lowered, and the collection is presented on live models — exactly as it was in 1987.
