Our story
In 2014 Tenzin Dolma, who grew up in the Tibetan colony below Manali, and Rahul Thakur, from an apple-growing family in Naggar, rented a two-storey timber house above the Manu Temple road. The first winter they served pour-over from a single hand grinder that had come up from Delhi on the overnight bus.
The kitchen is split down the middle: Tenzin's side makes momos and thukpa the way her grandmother did; Rahul's side makes siddu, madra and the Sunday dham from his mother's recipes. The trout comes from the Beas hatcheries at Patlikuhl, the apples from the family orchard, and the honey from a beekeeper in Kullu who takes payment in apple pie.

The people

Grew up in the Tibetan colony below Manali; trained at a Delhi roastery and came home with the grinder. Runs the coffee bar and the momo kitchen.

From an apple-growing family in Naggar. Cooks the siddu, madra and the Sunday dham from his mother's recipes, and picks the trout every morning.

Bakes the apple pies, cinnamon rolls and walnut brownies at 6 AM and again at 3 PM. Keeps the honey beekeeper supplied with pie.

From Keylong in Lahaul. Leads the sunrise breakfast treks, lights the bonfire and knows every path above the café by heart.
Regulars say
Worked from the window seat for three weeks in January. The Wi-Fi held through two snowfalls, the wood stove never went out, and the pour-over is better than anything I get in Bengaluru.

We did the sunrise trek with Sonam — brutal, beautiful, and the siddu at the end made it all worth it. Ordered the apple pie whole to take home, and it survived the bus.

Came for the momos because a friend insisted, stayed for the bonfire dinner. The trout over pine coals with the valley lights below — I've been telling everyone in Delhi about it.
